Save Jobs on Main Street. Close the Loophole!

In a year dominated by a struggling economy and tough budget decisions, a new issue has emerged as a top priority for Florida’s business community: Closing the Internet Sales Tax Loophole.

The small businesses on Main Street are the backbone of our economy, and our communities.  However, unlike Florida’s hometown retailers, online-only retail giants are not required to collect and pay state sales taxes.  This loophole has contributed to an unprecedented budget deficit, put Florida’s businesses at an unfair and unsustainable competitive disadvantage, and siphoned jobs out of our state.

The bottom line: A sale is a sale—whether it’s made online or on Main Street.  Closing this loophole will help to create jobs, correct Florida’s budget woes, and level the playing field for the many small businesses that form the backbone of Florida’s economy.
